Project idea is to understand the distances, areas around, between or within components of a piece. To explore the senses that create, define and interrupt our spaces.
Our experience of a space is influenced by many things: by knowledge of the functions of the space, by cultural associations, by memory and imagination. (Imagining space through sound C. McCombe)
Trying to understand and sense my space I looked at other artist work and way how they understand space and represent it in their work.
Richard Serra
Around 1970 Richard Serra became a leading artist of large scale site-specific sculptures. His site-specific works challenge viewers perception of their bodies in relation to interior spaces and landscapes, and his work often encourages movement in and around his sculptures. He plays with space and viewers expectations. He creates dialogue with a particular architectural, urban or landscape setting.
