Swatches for skirt project.

For this project I had to choose a word as a starting point to develop idea for a skirt. I chose to look at word rounded which made me think of rounds of cut wood, spider web, rounded stones and shells. I decided to work with shells for this project. I  made swatches to recreate shape and textures of shells.

 

Fabric cut in curvy lines and gathered together to create shape of shell.

Different weight fabrics stitched on wadding and some areas from top fabric cut out. I wanted to create pattern of shell.

 Color for this swatch washed out but it created lovely shapes of shells.

Fashion Manipulate to Recreate

These are final eight swatches for fabric manipulation on presentation boards.

First board  - pleating, gathered stuffed forms (wooden beads, crochet around beads, stuffed with wadding), stitching on water dissolving fabric, crochet forms.

 

Board from other side as some swatches create nice effect from other side as well.

  

On this board I combined hand stitching, printing on fabric, machine stitching over printed areas.

 Few more swatches with fabric manipulation.

Cording.Cord been stitched between two different weight fabrics.
